2019 Young Women Empowered (Y-WE) Alum Retreat

July 2019, Seattle, Washington

This financial literacy workshop presented participants with a basic overview of credit, debt and savings to help them begin to understand the importance of financial literacy and the many tools that are available to them to begin the road to financial success. Through shared stories and reviewing basic concepts, workshop participants engaged in conversations and activities around credit, optimizing spending, debt and savings strategies.

Power, Justice & Freedom through Education Summit

This workshop was designed to provide a way for youth to discuss their knowledge and relationship to issues of race. Participants engaged with selections of hip-hop and poetry to understand these art forms as ways to tell stories, connect their individual and collective experiences, and reflect on current issues in society.

The workshop revealed that bringing people together from different backgrounds and walks of life, is not only possible, but proved that intergenerational work is challenging, enriching and can foster spaces of dialogue rich in new perspectives and ways of knowing.

This workshop provided elementary school teachers with the tools to understand how race and racism have manifested in the United States, as well as how to begin navigating the effects it has in our work and personal lives.

CHALLENGING THE LENS OF HOMELESSNESS THROUGH POETRY

This workshop was in partnership with Friends of Youth, a local organization in Washington State, dedicated to providing homeless youth and their families a broad range of services to improve their stability and self-sufficiency.
