The Power of Money Series: Decolonizing our Relationship with Money  

Virtual Financial Education Workshop Series

2021- 2023

In this 3-part workshops series, participants packed the influences of inter- generational racial trauma by understanding the history of money and the growing racial wealth gap, how our individual trauma and experiences re-enforce colonial practices and how we can heal and decolonize our relationship with money to create a world where we can all thrive.

An intimate dialogue for Women of Color to come together and talk about their relationship with money.

In this virtual workshop discover the four core money beliefs that exist and how you can positively address them on your financial journey. 

The purpose of this workshop is for you:

To identify one to three money affirmations that will help you re-write your money scripts

This workshop on the Racial Wealth Gap combines history, individual reflection and group discussion to provide participants with a foundation of the origins of America’s income and racial wealth gap. Participants engage with historical documents to dispel the popular ‘bootstrap’ narrative and dig deeper into the institutional and political realities of racism that has allowed for the continuous divestment in Black & Indigenous communities.

Participants learned the importance of financial statements, the benefits of using cloud-based accounting software and participated in a Quickbooks Online demonstration.

This virtual financial education workshop allowed participants to apply hands-on activities to the history of money, building personal credit and the power of budgeting. Participants built their financial literacy through interactive lessons about credit, debt and savings.

2019 Young Women Empowered (Y-WE) Alum Retreat

This financial literacy workshop presented participants with a basic overview of credit, debt and savings to help them begin to understand the importance of financial literacy and the many tools that are available to them to begin the road to financial success. Through shared stories and reviewing basic concepts, workshop participants engaged in conversations and activities around credit, optimizing spending, debt and savings strategies.

Participants engaged with selections of hip-hop and poetry to understand these art forms as ways to tell stories, connect their individual and collective experiences, and reflect on current issues in society.
